Founder FG Roberts (1892-1977) pictured at left, an influential and
renowned naturopath,
dietitian and chiropractor, who operated the manufacturing facility
from 1936 to 1952, primarily to service his Australian wide chain of
shops and clinics. Some of these operated continuously from the
1930s into the 1970s and one, at Ballarat, into the early 1990s.
A health food industry leader and educator in Australia, Roberts also
pioneered the introduction of Soy to the Australian diet in 1935/36,
initially using imported American material. A detailed history of FG Roberts and Soy Products
is available by clicking on the link at the bottom of this
page.
Throughout his life FG Roberts was passionately concerned about overly
refined foods, ‘empty calories’, poor food combinations, lack of
dietary fibre, excessive salt and sugar use to mention but a few key
issues. Roberts believed that understanding the body and its
needs and gently assisting it, with minimal intervention, to do its job
properly was the path to good health… along with a good diet, adequate
rest and exercise, mental, emotional and spiritual well being.
The issues that concerned Roberts have, if anything, deteriorated
further and become even more urgent and relevant today. Australia and
many other parts of the world face expensive and largely preventable
lifestyle and dietary induced epidemics such as obesity, diabetes,
heart disease, cancer, arthritis, osteoporosis, mental illness,
substance abuse and addiction problems.
